City of Gardens
Inspired by our beautiful location in Victoria, British Columbia, Empress Elderflower Rose Gin pays homage to ‘The City of Gardens,’ where flowers blossom nearly year-round. The fresh, floral botanicals create a delicate spirit with a distinctive all-natural rose hue, adding a touch of our home to your next cocktail creation.
Nine beautifully blended botanicals create a delicate spirit with a stunning all-natural rose hue. Empress Elderflower Rose has a rich aroma and a surprisingly understated floral palate. With exquisite citrus and spice notes and a hint of sweetness, Elderflower Rose Gin allows each botanical to shine.
Natural & Distinct
Our Unique Colour
To achieve Empress Elderflower Rose Gin’s stunning ruby hue, we use a unique combination of red rose petals and black carrots. Roses are a traditional gin botanical with a beautiful floral note and a delicate aroma. The black carrot adds a touch of sweetness and enhances and maintains our rich ruby colour. Like the original Empress 1908 Gin and its iconic indigo hue, Empress Elderflower Rose Gin’s red rose hue is all-natural.
No artificial colours or stabilizers are used, so while the flavour will last forever, the unique ruby colour will fade over time. Fading is accelerated by exposure to sunlight, so we recommend that you experience each bottle within a year of purchase and store it in a cool, dark place. After all, a gin this beautiful is meant to be enjoyed at its best.
The classic taste found in most gins, it provides a complex flavour with notes of pine and citrus. And while London Dry Gins like a big juniper burst, our Pacific Northwest style gin uses a subtle varietal that isn’t too pushy, and balances nicely with the other less traditional botanicals.
Red Rose Petal
Red rose petal is a highly luxurious botanical, often used in perfumes or cooking. Boasting flavour that reminds us of fresh strawberries, red rose also imbues the gin’s unforgettable ruby hue.
On the more subtle side, Elderflower maintains a distinct flavour that can been described as musky and sweet. While not overtly flowery, it plays particularly well when paired with other traditional florals like red rose and lavender.
Abundantly floral, lavender brings a taste not unlike rosemary to the gin. Paired with the sweeter red rose and elderflower, this final flower completes the bright botanical bouquet that raises a toast to our city of gardens.
With a sweetness that’s almost sugary, orange peel balances the bolder, spiced elements of cinnamon and juniper. A hint of pith completes this citrus’ profile, adding a well-rounded, full-bodied finish.
Characterized by its woody, earthy flavour, orris root comes from the vibrantly coloured iris flower. An efflorescent hint of violet comes through, with finishing notes reminiscent of red berries.
A more contemporary addition, the essential oil from cinnamon bark provides a warm, spicy note that serves as a complement to the citrus and floral elements.
A traditional gin botanical, coriander has hints of nut and spice that brings some warmth to the palette. Ours is sourced from India and is a bit more citrusy than what is typically used in gin, and plays off orange peel to round out the flavour.
Macerated post-distillation with red rose petals, black carrot adds a slightly sweet note while enhancing and maintaining our rich ruby colour.
